Kit Toogood QC has now re-established his legal practice.

Kit offers his clients a skillset and experience acquired during nearly 50 years’ of providing advocacy and advice over, and adjudicating on, a broad range of subject matters.

Kit's practice areas include:  mediation, arbitration, investigation services, litigation advice, and consultancy on governance issues.
Kit is available to mediate in all types of conflict or dispute, including relationship property and trusts, employment, and commercial matters and sports disputes.

Before his appointment as a judge, Kit conducted civil and commercial litigation in all New Zealand courts; appeared as senior counsel in major criminal trials in the High Court and District Courts; and had appellate experience in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court (in civil, commercial and criminal matters).

He provided strategic advice to major corporations and government departments on employment issues, and to arts organisations on governance and organisational issues.


Kit Toogood QC is a former member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Lausanne, Switzerland and a foundation Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Sports Tribunal.  He is experienced in the resolution of sports selection and disciplinary issues.
